ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Johan Larsson has developed a knack for delivering when the Buffalo Sabres are in need of a goal.Larsson had a third-period score in his return to Minnesota and Robin Lehner made 27 saves, lifting Buffalo to a 2-1 win against the Wild on Tuesday night.A 2010 second-round pick by Minnesota, Larsson has seven game-winning goals among his 18 career tallies, and all seven in 83 games the past two seasons for the Sabres. It just happens, Larsson said. Fortunately, Im out there and a little bit of luck, I guess.Ryan OReilly added his fourth goal for Buffalo, which has won three straight.Larsson scored his second of the season past goaltender Devan Dubnyk with just over six minutes left. Brian Gionta centered a puck that went off the stick of Minnesota forward Mikael Granlund and deflected off the shaft of Larssons stick. The Swedish forward played one career game for the Wild in 2013 before being traded for Jason Pominville. He was a guy who scored a lot for us at the end of last season and did have a knack for getting the big goals and getting the game-winning goal, Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said. Tonight were trying to scratch out some kind of offense in the third period, trying to push forward in this building and get the win. Theres nothing really fancy about him coming up big.Dubnyk stopped 22 shots but had his individual scoreless streak end at 183:16. Granlund scored his second goal for Minnesota, which had won three in a row and was unbeaten in four previous home games. It was frustrating, Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. Sometimes its a frustrating team. It can play so good one period and not show up for the (next) period. Tonight, we didnt show up in the first period.Dubnyks streak ended just three shots into the game. Dubnyk stopped Rasmus Ristolainens point shot, but OReilly had the rebound deflect off his skate directly to his stick for an easy score.Im a big fan of wins and those shutouts are bonus, Dubnyk said. Its disappointing to have it end on a bounce like that, but a lot of fortunate bounces have to happen to get three in a row. So, well let that one go and get ready for Saturday. Granlund tied it on the games first power play. With Josh Gorges off for slashing and breaking Granlunds stick, Pominville brought the puck into the offensive zone and dumped to Eric Staal.Staals shot bounced to Granlund, who was streaking in. Granlunds speed allowed him to get past a sprawling Lehner for the goal.I thought we came out hard today, Lehner said. They came back and pushed back in the second period, and got some momentum going. But I think we held the fort together and I think thats a very solid third period.Game notesBuffalo D Zach Bogosian didnt play the final two periods and was announced out with a knee injury. ... Minnesotas franchise-record scoreless streak was snapped at 184:59. ... Sabres F Hudson Fasching, a Minnesota native, missed the game with a groin injury. The Red Sox are seeking a steady eighth-inning setup man in the absence of Koji Uehara, who is sidelined indefinitely by a right pectoral strain. The Chicago Cubs have also been mentioned as a potential Papelbon suitor.Papelbon broke into the majors with Boston in 2005, recording 219 saves and making four American League All-Star Games in seven seasons with the Red Sox.Theres no question hes a different pitcher now than nine years ago, Farrell said of Papelbon. Theres been a lot of saves recorded in between, a lot of pitches thrown. Hes evolved as more of a pitcher rather than relying solely on velocity and a fastball that he would attack with.Coming back into Boston, if that were to happen, hes very well-aware of the environment, the expectation. So well see where that goes.Papelbon, 35, became a free agent Saturday when the Washington Nationals released him at his request. The Nationals removed him from the closers role in late July when they acqquired Mark Melancon from Pittsburgh in a trade, and the Nationals were reportedly planning to designate Papelbon for assignment when he asked for his release.dddddddddddd.WEEI-FM in Boston was first to report that Papelbon was close to making a decision on his next team.Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, Papelbons former Boston teammate, praised him in an interview with ESPNChicago.coms Jesse Rogers on Sunday and said Papelbon got a bad rap for his dugout confrontation with Washington teammate Bryce Harper last season. He is crazy, Lester said with a smile. But hes no crazier than the rest of us. He just gets a bad rap for what happened in the dugout. Knowing Papelbon, Ive always had good things to say about him as a teammate, how he respects the game and how he goes about his business.Papelbon ranks ninth in MLB history with 368 career saves in 12 seasons with the Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and the Nationals. He was 2-4 with a 4.37 ERA and 19 saves in 37 appearances with Washington this season.Because the Nationals released Papelbon, theyre responsible for the roughly $3 million that remains of his $11 million salary for 2016.ESPN Staff Writer Scott Lauber contributed to this report.
