Walker-Kimbrough led the way with six points over that stretch. We wanted to come out and set the tone early, Walker-Kimbrough said. One of goals today was just to play Maryland basketball: defend, rebound and run. I thought we did a good job early speeding them up, but we have to make sure we sustain that for 40 minutes. The Terrapins remained dominant at both ends of the court and continued to pull away from the outmatched River Hawks. The Terps had 11 steals over an 11-minute span in the first half.Maryland was 23 of 38 (60.5 percent) from the field and led 57-16 at the break. The Terrapins were just as dominant in the second half, and a jumper by Small increased the margin to 89-32 with 7:45 left in the game. Its a good test, River Hawks coach Jenerrie Harris said about playing Maryland. Its nice to be able to go against one of the best teams in the country. Maybe where we cant make each other pay in practice, that can make us pay in a situation like this so that we can make the improvement for later in the season.Nicole Hayner led UMass-Lowell (0-2) with 17 points.BIG PICTUREUMass-Lowell: The River Hawks are looking to improve from last season, when they went 4-24 overall and 1-15 in the America East. Custom College Jerseys Free Shipping .Y. -- Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo had little trouble picking up his first shutout of the season against a Buffalo Sabres team thats having trouble scoring goals. The Colorado Avalanche might be the most talented last-place team in history. With just 23 standings points in 27 games played, the Avs sit in 30th place in the NHL and only lost their foothold on the worst goal differential when the Arizona Coyotes lost 7-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night. While the Coyotes are in the midst of a full rebuild, the Avalanches roster is stocked with some former top draft picks, a skilled puck-moving defenseman, a handful of decent veterans and a Vezina Trophy finalist goalie. Yet they havent been close to competitive. It was reasonable to suggest that former coach Patrick Roy was the problem. During his tenure, the Avs were consistently one of the leagues worst teams in shot attempt differential, relying heavvily on special teams and goaltending to win games.ddddddddddddIt worked for one season, 2013-14, in which Colorado won the Central Division with an impressive 112 points. But Roys teams collapsed and missed the playoffs the next two seasons, and he abruptly resigned this summer. It turns out he was far from the only problem. The Avalanche sit in 28th in Corsi for percentage, taking just 46.6 percent of total even-strength shot attempts in their games this season. So where is the disconnect between the skilled roster and the results, and how should the Avs fix it, given that there isnt much help on the way from prospects?
