LAWRENCE, Kan. -- After two years of close calls and dashing dreams against Kansas, the TCU Horned Frogs found themselves in another tight game with the Jayhawks. In the 2014 and 2015 matchups between the two conference foes, the games were decided by 10 points combined. The pattern continued Saturday when TCU (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) outlasted Kansas 24-23.KU has always played us hard, TCU coach Gary Patterson said. ... Im going to do a better job of changing my signals. I thought (defensive coordinator) Coach (Clint) Bowen and the defensive group did a great job. Its been three years hes done a good job on us.One of the things different this time was that TCU wasnt ranked.Kenny Hill completed 17 of 32 passes for 206 yards with one touchdown pass and one rushing score to help TCU squeak out its fourth win of the season.Kansas took a 23-14 lead late in the third quarter on Ryan Willis 21-yard run. But TCU answered early in the fourth. On third-and-12 in its own territory, Hill scrambled and fumbled, but he picked it up and darted around the field for a gain of 34 yards. A facemask penalty added 15 extra yards to put TCU in scoring position.Fortunately for us, we had one of those plays last week against us, Patterson said. Usually, if you win those plays, a lot of times you have the chance to win the ballgame. Two plays later, Hill connected with Jaelan Austin for the touchdown to put the Horned Frogs within 23-21.Kansas had two good scoring chances in the fourth quarter, but went wide right and wide left on two field-goal opportunities. With under four minutes remaining, TCU pieced together a 59-yard drive to tack on a field goal to take the lead at 24-23.Kansas had 81 seconds to make something happen.Willis was sacked on back-to-back plays to put Kansas in a tough spot at third-and-23 on the Kansas 30-yard line. Willis avoided getting sacked for a third straight down and ran the ball out of bounds. On fourth down, Willis threw the ball to Sims, who lateraled it to Bobby Hartzog. Kansas had the first down and was in TCU territory. But Matthew Wyman missed a 54-yard field goal.Sometimes things dont fall your way and you gotta bounce back, Willis said. After losing three games to TCU over the past three seasons by a combined 11 points, itd be easy for minds to wander.Theres a lot of `ifs and `buts but those dont matter, Kansas coach David Beaty said. We have to go to school before next week with more Big 12 play.Kyle Hicks carried the ball 18 times for 104 yards and one touchdown for TCU. Hill threw three interceptions.Willis was 31 of 45 for 348 yards with three interceptions for Kansas, LaQuvionte Gonzalez had 131 yards receiving and Steven Sims added 101 yards receiving.STAT LINESKANSAS: Under Beaty, the Jayhawks are 1-16 and are still awaiting their first conference victory.TCU: The Horned Frogs have scored in 299 consecutive games, the second-longest current streak in the nation, dating to Nov. 16, 1991.TAKEAWAYSTCU: Hills three picks tied a career high.KANSAS: The Jayhawks have 17 turnovers through five games.UP NEXTTCU: After a bye week, the Horned Frogs play at West Virginia on Oct. 22.Kansas: Plays at Baylor next Saturday. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Justin Forsett and Gary Kubiak are back together and both are counting on their reunion in Denver leading to a revival. The Broncos claimed the 31-year-old running back off waivers from Detroit to replace Kapri Bibbs, who went on IR with a high left ankle sprain he suffered in the Broncos 20-10 win at Jacksonville. Were dropping like flies, so itll be great to have him and I cant wait to meet him, said rookie running back Devontae Booker, who had his worst game of the season Sunday, gaining just 35 yards on 18 carries. The Broncos were down to Booker and Juwan Thompson in their backfield after the first-half injury to Bibbs, who became the third Denver running back to go on IR. He joined starter C.J. Anderson (knee) and rookie fullback Andy Janovich, who had season-ending ankle surgery a week ago.We hate to lose Kapri, Kubiak said on his Sirius XM show Monday afternoon. (Forsett) was out there. He played really well in Baltimore with us and knows what hes doing.Over his career, Forsett has averaged 5.5 yards a carry in Kubiaks offenses and 4.4 yards elsewhere. With Kubiak as his offensive coordinator, Forsett set career highs with 235 carries for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns in 2014. He averaged a career-best 5.9 yards a carry for Kubiak in Houston in 2012.Forsett averaged 3.1 yards per carry in five games this season, three with the Ravens and two with the Lions.Thats better than Bookers 2.8-yard average since Anderson got hurt on Oct. 24.His longest run Sunday was a 6-yard TD in which left tackle Russell Okung pulled him across the goal line.Bibbs had 49 yards on just five carries against the Jaguars but a defender rolled up on him in the second quarter, ending his day, and ultimately, his season.I thought it was going to be a good game for me, said Bibbs, who also figured hed be back this month to help the Broncos (8-4) in their playoff push against a foursome of teams with a combined record of 35-13.Bibbs said an MRI on Monday revealed no broken bones or instability and he vowed to get round--the-clock treatment if necessary so that he could get back as soon as possible.ddddddddddddThen, the Broncos decided to put him on IR rather than waive one of their eight receivers or two long snappers, one of whom is hurt.A third-year pro who spent most of the last two seasons on Denvers practice squad, Bibbs 4.4-yard average on 29 carries this season was better than both Anderson (4.0) and Booker (3.5). Bibbs also had two catches for 75 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown against Oakland a month ago. With no ground game to ease the pressure and facing one of the leagues best pass defenses, rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch had a rough day Sunday, completing just half of his 24 passes for 104 yards with no TDs and no interceptions. He was in way too much distress back there. We didnt protect him the way we should have, Bibbs said. I feel sorry for him. But were going to fix that.Kubiak expressed faith in Lynchs development while also projecting hope that Trevor Siemian returns from a sprained left foot this weekend at Tennessee (6-6).He noted that Siemian wasnt in the walking boot all weekend and was walking around without a limp. With Bibbs, the Broncos sweeps and misdirection runs worked well, but that ended when he went out. In the second half, Denver managed just 28 yards on 14 carries.Bibbs said that some guys (are) hearing different calls or going the wrong way and when it comes to offense, everyone has to be on point at all times and everyone has to be on the same page. And if one person is out of whack, it throws the whole play off.Bibbs made his comments before being placed on IR. But he did say, Im willing to do whatever for this team, so if me trying to play hurt is going to hurt this team, then I dont want to do that.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapleton ' ' '
