ATLANTA -- First-year Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner saw another positive step in the growth of center Ben Lammers on Sunday afternoon.Lammers had 12 points and 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and Georgia Tech routed Alcorn State 74-50 Sunday at McCamish Pavilion. When I first saw Ben in April when I first got the job and had our first workout, I was like, `Man, hes got some talent but he has a long way to go, Pastner said. To his credit, hes gotten better and better and better. The 6-foot-10 junior was 5-for-7 from the field and had six offensive rebounds and one blocked shot for the Yellow Jackets, who won their second-straight game. Lammers played only 20 minutes and didnt return to the court for the final 6:39.He got after it, Alcorn coach Montez Robinson said. The Braves were led by A.J. Mosby with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Reginal Johnson with 15 points and five reboundsGeorgia Tech came out and played well, Robinson said. They really got us out of what we wanted to run. They had a great plan for our guys. We tried to battle through it but just could never get over the hump.Alcorn State was able to hang around for the early part of the first half because of its 3-point success. The Braves were within 18-12 when Denzel Dulin made a 3-pointer with 11:28 left in the first half. But Georgia Tech responded with a 12-2 run that included back-to-back dunks from Jackson and Lammers, as well as a three-point play from Okogie. The run gave the Yellow Jackets a 30-14 lead with 6:00 left in the half.Georgia Tech led 39-22 at the half. Alcorn stayed close because of its 3-point success, hitting 6 of 7, and because it scored 11 points off seven Georgia Tech turnovers.Defensively they hit those 3s in the first half but we did force them into 21 turnovers, Pastner said. Streit, the Islanders team captain, has 65 goals and 288 points in 491 regular-season NHL games, and is a sharp, left-handed shot from the blue line that is much-needed as Philadelphia reshapes its roster. Streit, though, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 5, meaning he can sign anywhere. But the Flyers now own his rights until then, and can negotiate a new deal with him exclusively until that time. "Im pretty confident," Streit said when asked about the chances that the Flyers and his representation can connect on a deal. "Maybe they need a few days or weeks, but Im pretty positive. Itd be awesome to play for the Flyers. The future is bright. They were in the (Stanley) Cup finals three years ago and there is so much skill and a great mix between veteran players and young players, so Im pretty confident. "I truly hope its going to get done soon." The 35-year-old Streit joined the Islanders as a free agent in 2008, led the team in scoring his first season with 56 points and was an all-star. Should he stay with Philadelphia, he would bolster the Flyers blue-line, which was decimated by injuries last season and was a prime reason the club did not make tthe post-season.dddddddddddd "This year was a short season and they had lots of injuries," Streit said. "That makes it tough. It was a special year because of the lockout. That gave an advantage to some teams and some teams struggled. But when you see the Flyers lineup, it is a playoff team. Its no question to me. I believe the Flyers will be in the playoffs next year. They have the skill and the physical part of it. "Its a great group and Id love to join that team." Streit made $4.1 million this season in New York, and had six goals and 27 points. "Mark is a player we would have had interest in on July 5th," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "We now have exclusive negotiating rights and we are hopeful that we can get an agreement in place prior to him becoming an unrestricted free agent." Though he has impressive scoring totals for a defenceman, Streits value -- and his reputation around the league -- is more for being a workhorse and an anchor on defence. This season, as the Islanders secured the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference, Streit played in all 48 games. He also had three goals and five points in a six-game, first-round loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Streit also played for Switzerlands Olympic team in 2006 and 2010. Harper had 20 goals and 21 assists over parts of four seasons with the AHLs Phantoms. ' ' '
