Professional Footballers Association chief executive Gordon Taylor is disappointed with Jose Mourinhos public criticism of Manchester United players he claims lack bravery. Mourinho issued a warning to his United squad after the 3-1 win over Swansea on Sunday that he only wants players who are willing to put their bodies on the line in his dressing room. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for only £6.99. No contract. Although not naming any player directly, Mourinho had earlier revealed England internationals Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw had made themselves unavailable for the Swansea game through injury, leading to interim national manager Gareth Southgate coming out in support of them. Southgate left both out of his squad for the World Cup Qualifier against Scotland and the friendly with Spain, saying there was obviously something wrong with them. And Taylor, speaking at the VSI Sporting Directors governance dinner, told Sky Sports News HQ: I was disappointed by that because, knowing the individuals, they are both highly thought of.Theyve got personal problems which I dont need to relay, but sometimes a manager needs to be a psychologist as well, and also to be a counsellor because you cant treat everybody in the team [the same], every manager must know that. Every player in a team is different. Mourinho said some of his squad members lacked bravery When you see what happened with Welsh football and Gary Speed, that brings it home to you that somebody can look on top of the world, with no problems, but [in reality] its quite different and thats why we have a 24-hour counselling service. We get some 200 calls a year to those lines because a player could be out of the team, he could be injured. Its a short-term career and were all human beings. Swansea 1-3 Manchester Utd I think thats what management these days has to be. Im not talking about being soft, Im talking about being understanding because to even get to the top in football you have got to succeed as not so many actually make it in the game. Like Steve Coppell said turtles come ashore to lay hundreds of eggs because they know very few get back. Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling both missed Uniteds clash with Swansea City on Sunday Those that do make it have a great resolve and resilience. Those days are gone when we had no substitutes and you were on the wing with a broken leg and still trying to carry on.Surely weve come beyond that and thats why its important if anyone has a head injury or possible concussion they have to come out of the game. Weve seen in other sports - rugby and cricket and just recently horse racing, the tragedy of a very serious injury to a jockey who is now paralysed from the waist down.Sport is good and it brings people together but there is another side of it which can be quite dangerous and thats why the people running the game have to be careful with health and safety, and psychological understanding. Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has said the team has to shake off any satisfaction of having been competitive in the Chittagong Test against England in order to focus on the second Test in Mirpur. The buzz from the 22-run defeat was still present, however, as the team trained on Wednesday.Everyone is saying that we played well but we have discussed as a team that we cannot be so happy with so little, Tamim said. We wont be able to improve if we have that mentality. I know we were competitive but we should have won the game. We can take positives from the first Test, like we competed for five days. It would have been a different story had we won the game.I know our Test record isnt great but we will try our best in every way to win the next game, which is a belief that is held by every cricketer who plays for Bangladesh. We will try to do our job properly from the first to last ball. The Chittagong Test was Bangladeshs narrowest loss in terms of runs, the previous being the 77-run defeat to West Indies in 2012. Tamim, who made 78 in the first innings, said being competitive wasnt enough anymore; Bangladesh have won only seven out of 94 Tests.Tamim said the team was less focused on the toss, the pitch, or DRS ahead of the second Test, and more on improving the batting annd bowling.ddddddddddddI think the less I talk about the last game, the better, he said. It was a good Test match, but we lost in the end. Five years from now, it will read that we lost the game. We should stick to the processes and planning that we have. We are discussing more on what we can do with bat and ball, not on the wicket or the toss.It is not easy to return to cricket after 14 months but I think the players adapted very well. The batsmen moved from T20s to ODIs to Test cricket. We have a number of Tests in the next six months, so we want to use the rhythm from the Chittagong Test for the future.Tamim said Bangladesh should do better in favourable conditions and batsmen should look to score more runs after they were set. The wicket in Chittagong was in our favour but we still lost the game. We have to reduce our mistakes and bowl according to the wicket.Batting wasnt easy on that wicket but we had our moments. I think we should have stretched those moments a bit. If the wicket remains the same in Dhaka, the batsman should score 20-25 runs more after they are settled. The second Test against England begins in Mirpur on October 28. ' ' '
