Salford have been docked six points after being found guilty of breaching the Super League salary cap. The Red Devils were also fined £5,000 by an independent tribunal for breaking the Rugby Football Leagues operational rules and salary cap regulations concerning contractual arrangements made with three players in 2014 and 2015.The tribunal, chaired by Judge Peter Charlesworth found that Salford had committed a serious breach of the rules including exceeding the finite salary limit of £1.825m in 2014. The points deduction will be imposed immediately, which means Salford drop to 11th in the Super League table, above only bottom club Huddersfield on points difference. The tribunal also found Salford not guilty of a number of offences concerning contractual arrangements with two players. The club have 14 days from the receipt of the written reasons for the decision in which to lodge an appeal. But Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash told Sky Sports News HQ he was not considering an appeal because the club would not get a fair trial, because it would be another court by the RFL.By a quirky twist of fate, Koukash had tweeted on April 1 that Salford had been docked six points for breaching the cap and pledged to fight the punishment. Highlights from Salfords 42-32 defeat at Catalans on Saturday The wealthy racehorse owner was in bullish mood as he entered the RFL headquarters at Red Hall, on the outskirts of Leeds, with a three-man legal team, expressing his confidence about the outcome, but he was a downcast figure when he emerged six hours later. The tribunal have made a decision which we disagree with, said lawyer Paul Barrow, of Liverpool-based Quinn Barrow solicitorsWere disappointed, six points is ridiculously unfair on a young squad who are trying really hard and have got lots to aim for this season. The RFL launched their investigation into Salfords affairs after Bradford chairman Marc Green initially raised questions over their signing of Tony Puletua from St Helens in 2014. Salford owner Marwan Koukash is not happy with the outcome Koukash insisted his club did nothing wrong over Puletua and also maintains his actions in gifting 2015 player of the year Niall Evalds with a Maserati car were carried out within the regulations. We had a very good case and we were confident and were very shocked by the outcome, Koukash told SSNHQ.We havent done anything wrong. We havent breached the salary cap. Also See: Salford Red Devils Rugby League on Sky Fixtures and results Follow @SkySportsRL Pundits Sko Nmd Norge . Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson is adamant his team can still win the flag even if they fall to fifth, saying the AFLs curve ball bye week has thrown the premiership race wide open. The Hawks are almost certain to miss out on a top-two spot after suffering a 25-point loss to West Coast in Perth on Friday night.Hawthorn will secure either third or fourth spot - and the double finals chance that goes with it - if they beat Collingwood at the MCG next Sunday. But even if they lose and fall to fifth or sixth, Clarkson will still be quietly confident of guiding his team to a fourth straight flag. What gives him that belief is the AFLs controversial decision to roster in a bye week immediately following the final round of the home-and-away season.Teams have tended to struggle after bye weeks in the past.Clarkson feels this could be magnified for any top-four team who earns another break by winning their qualifying final.I dont really know where we want to finish to be fair, Clarkson said.Im sure theres other coaches in the competition that are thinking exactly the same - the huge curve ball in this years finals series is that bye after round 23.ddddddddddddIts unique. Its never been done in the game before. No one knows how its going to pan out. If theres any year theres a chance to come from outside of the top four, its this year, because of that very unique situation.Adelaide in 1998 were the last team to win the premiership from outside of the top four. But that was under a different finals format that allowed the Crows to stay in the race despite losing in week one of the finals.Despite having some concerns about the impact of the upcoming bye week, Clarkson is still intent on locking away a top-four berth. But hell have to do it without ruckman Jonathon Ceglar, who suffered a suspected anterior cruciate ligament tear to his right knee against the Eagles.Midfielder Jordan Lewis faces a nervous wait after striking out at Eagles ruckman Scott Lycett.Lewis was lying on his back when he struck Lycett on his face with a glancing blow, with the AFLs match review panel almost certain to assess the incident.
