The ACC fined Louisville and Virginia Tech $25,000 each for accepting leaked gameplan information from Wake Forest radio broadcaster Tommy Elrod, the league announced Saturday. The $25,000 penalty is the maximum fine allowed under ACC bylaws. Earlier this week, both schools admitted that assistants at their respective programs received specific plays from Elrod, who has since been fired from his duties with IMG and barred from Wake Forest.Louisville suspended offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl against LSU because he accepted the plays before the two teams played this past November. Virginia Tech did not name the assistant who accepted plays from Elrod, saying only he no longer worked at the school. The ACC added it was satisfied with Galloways suspension. In all, three schools were involved in the scandal: Virginia Tech (2014), Louisville (2016) and Army (2014, 2016). Army put out a statement Saturday saying a U.S. Army official would conduct an investigation into the allegations.I am deeply disturbed something like this would occur, and regardless of the degree of involvement, the protection of the competitive integrity of our games is fundamental to any athletic contest, ACC Commissioner John Swofford said in a statement. Sportsmanship and ethical values are at the core of competitive integrity and in these instances, those were missing. The expectation, regardless of the sport, is that any athletics department staff members would immediately communicate with their supervisor if they are approached by someone from another institution with proprietary information.Wake Forests internal investigation began after a sheet featuring its plays was discovered during a Nov. 11 walk-through at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium, one day before the Demon Deacons played Louisville there.Emails, text and phone records showed that Elrod provided or attempted to provide confidential game plan information dating back to 2014.Elrod played at Wake Forest and was an assistant there under former coach Jim Grobe. When Dave Clawson was hired for the 2014 season, he decided not to retain Elrod, who transitioned to the radio booth and was given complete access to Wake Forest practices and facilities. His attorney has yet to comment on the investigation. Cheap Browns Jerseys . The NBL has dished up some weird and wacky things throughout this season, however, Round 8 clearly takes the cake. The top-of-the-table Kings played against the bottom-of-the-ladder side twice during round 8 and subsequently lost both games. The upsets didnt end there, second placed Perth also went down to the Hawks; ending a 25-game win streak over them at home. Cairns took down the higher ranked New Zealand Breakers whilst Adelaide look more comfortable on the road. The league couldnt be a more even competition if you tried, making it must watch television night in; night out.So who and what stood out the most during Round 8?Haunting the KingsIn the movies hes known as Casper the friendly ghost, unfortunately for Sydney, the Casper they faced in Melbourne wasnt so friendly; although he was just as cold. Its safe to say that the NBL ball hasnt affected Casper Ware as it has other imports. Playing in only his second game for Melbourne United, Ware put the Kings to the sword with an impressive 28-point display. With the game tied and only six seconds on the clock, United draw up the play for Ware, he calmly ambled up to the three-point line and sunk the biggest shot of the round.Touch the SkyTerrence Ferguson is only 18 years of age and is capable of flying. Sit back and enjoy...Trice as NiceGetting acclimatised to the surrounds of the NBL can take its time for new players, Travis Trice can attest to that. The former Michigan State Spartan found the going tough early on, his highest scoring game during his opening three matches was only 11 points against the 36ers.After missing the first four Taipans games to start the month, Trice again strugggled in his return against Melbourne however turned things around against the Breakers.dddddddddddd Finishing with a game high 31 points on 12/17 shooting to go along with 7 assists, all the while carrying the Taipans to a much needed victory.Life on the RoadLast week we mentioned Adelaide having problems at home, during Round 8 they played two games on the road and came away with two wins.Unlike games earlier on in the season, the 36ers werent relying purely on the impact of star point guard Jerome Randle to get them across the line.In both games, against Brisbane and Sydney, they had at least four players scoring in double figures and got a much greater impact from their bench unit.Adelaide are now the only team in the league with a winning record on the road, currently 4-3 (much better than their 1-3 home record!).Snakes and LaddersIt was the round for upsets as we saw a multitude of games going the way of the underdog. Melbourne were bottom of the ladder when they decided to upset the Kings, Adelaide also were stranded on the bottom when they dethroned the Sydney side. The Kings and Perth Wildcats, who sit atop the NBL ladder, now find themselves both riding two game losing streaks.Illawarra have not won in Perth since November 5, 2005. That is an insane 25 games that have gone the way of the home town Wildcats. That streak was ended during Round 8 in miraculous fashion, after falling behind early the Hawks surged behind former MVP Rotnei Clarke and took down the Wildcats.Well played Round 8, well played.
