HOUSTON -- The Seattle Mariners only managed one hit against Houston on Saturday night. That big swing by Michael Saunders was all they needed to put away the last-place Astros. Saunders got Seattles only hit with a two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning to lift the Mariners to a 4-2 victory. Erik Bedard (3-7) pitched 6 1-3 innings of no-hit ball before he was replaced by Jose Cisnero, who walked Mike Zunino with two outs before the double by Saunders put Seattle ahead 4-2. The long fly ball sailed just out of reach of sprinting centre fielder Brandon Barnes and landed at the top of Tals Hill in straightaway centre. "That was the longest double Ive ever had," Saunders said. "I definitely put a good swing on it. I guess if the hill isnt out there, maybe he runs it down. Or if the hill isnt out there, maybe its a home run. I dont know. But it fell, we won and thats all that matters." Bedard had thrown 109 pitches when he left the game. Houston manager Bo Porter gave him the option of staying in, but the 34-year-old was ready to go. "Ive had three shoulder surgeries," Bedard said. "Im not going over 110 (pitches). Id rather pitch a couple more years than face another batter." The Mariners, who extended their season-high winning streak to five games, tied it in a wacky sixth inning by scoring two runs thanks to a combination of passed balls, walks and a sacrifice fly. It was the Mariners fewest hits of the season and they struck out 15 times, but they were helped by drawing six walks. "I would say it was the strangest game Ive been involved from Little League to the big leagues when you give up one hit and punch out 15 guys and end up on the losing side of it," Porter said. "But its crystal clear how we ended up on the losing side of it. When you walk (six) guys and all four of their runs that score are via the walk, theres no defence for it." Travis Blackley and Jose Veras each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the one-hitter. It was the third time the Mariners had only one hit in a win. The last was a 1-0 victory over the Yankees on April 27, 2002. They are the second team since 1916 to score four or more runs with one or fewer hits, the first since the White Sox were no-hit but beat the Yankees 4-0 on July 1, 1990. And as another example of just how rare such a game is, the last time a team scored four runs on one hit with no errors was in 1914. The Chicago White Sox did it in a 5-4 loss to Detroit, according to information provided by the Mariners from the Elias Sports Bureau. Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma (9-4) allowed seven hits with two runs and seven strikeouts in seven innings to lower his ERA to 2.99. Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 21st save. Saunders also helped out on defence, dashing to right-centre to reach and make a nifty catch to rob Justin Maxwell of extra bases with no outs in the ninth inning. Bedard yielded three runs -- one earned -- walked five and struck out a season-high 10. He walked off the field expressionless and was greeted with a standing ovation when he was replaced by Cisnero. He relied on fastballs between 90-92 mph and mixed in a few curveballs and changeups to keep the Mariners hitless. Bedard is the first Houston pitcher to go 6 1-3 hitless innings since Darryl Kile tossed a no-hitter against the Mets on Sept. 8, 1993. Seattle manager Eric Wedge said it was the best hes ever seen Bedard, a former Mariner, pitch. "Bedard threw a heck of a ballgame," Wedge said. "He had a great breaking ball going, a live fastball. He did everything good to keep us off-balance but we made him work. We were able to get him out of there at a reasonable time and try somebody else out." Bedard didnt allow a baserunner until Kendrys Morales walked to start the fifth inning. But he got back on track after that, retiring the next four batters he faced. He then issued consecutive walks to Saunders and Brad Miller with one out in the sixth inning. Saunders advanced to third and Miller took second on a passed ball by Jason Castro. Saunders scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Franklin to get Seattle within 2-1. A second passed ball by Castro allowed Miller to score and tie it at 2. Raul Ibanez walked before Bedard retired Morales to end the inning. Bedard retired Kyle Seager on a fly out before he was chased on a walk by Justin Smoak. The Astros had runners at second and third with no outs in the third inning, but Iwakuma retired the next three batters, with two strikeouts to end the threat. Matt Dominguez singled to start the fifth before a double by Jake Elmore. Dominguez scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Altuve with one out to make it 1-0. A single by Castro sent another run home. Seattles tough offensive night ended its franchise-high streak of 23 straight games with a home run. It was the Mariners first game without one since June 19. NOTES: Seager went 0 for 4 to snap a 15-game hitting streak, which was the longest active streak in the majors. ... The series wraps up on Sunday when Seattles Felix Hernandez (10-4) opposes Jordan Lyles (4-3). Hernandez leads the American League with a 2.53 ERA. ... Bautista hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning and Rajai Davis scored on a wild pitch in the 10th to lead the Blue Jays to a 7-5 win over the White Sox at a dimmed U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday night. Wang made his first start of the season after signing with the injury-riddled Blue Jays, lasting 7 1-3 innings while giving up five runs and 10 hits to help Toronto avoid a three-game losing streak. "I thought he did a great job," Gibbons said. "He really did." During the 10th, there was a brief delay after a handful of bulbs in the light standards above the infield at U.S. Cellular Field went out as Ramon Troncoso (0-1) prepared to throw his 2-1 pitch to Adam Lind. Following the delay, Davis scored on Troncosos wild pitch. Toronto took a 7-5 lead when Maicer Izturis came home on Munenori Kawasakis double after Tyler Flowers dropped Alexei Ramirezs relay throw for Chicagos third error of the night. Brett Cecil (2-0) went 1 2-3 innings for the win and Casey Janssen pitched a scoreless 10th for his 13th save in 14 tries, getting Adam Dunn to ground out with runners on first and second to end the game as the lights returned to full strength. "Its baseball season. Were happy tonight and tomorrows a new day," said Lind, who had three hits. "Another tough game tomorrow, their ace (Chris Sale) is on the mound so we know what were in for." Wang started the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization, but opted out of his minor league deal last Friday after going 4-4 with a 2.33 ERA in nine starts. Wang has spent seven seasons in the major leagues, five with the Yankees, but last started at least 15 games in 2008. Tuesday was only his 26th start since then because of a series of injuries. Before Tuesday, Wang hadnt pitched in any game since June 1, when he threw seven shutout innings against Durham. His previous major league start was Sept. 23 against the Brewers, and his last win was June 12 of last year against the Blue Jays, when he was with the Washington Nationals. Manager John Gibbons said Wang will get another start for the Blue Jays. To make room for Wang, the Blue Jays designated IF Andy LaRoche for assignment. LaRoche was 1 for 4 in one game with the Blue Jays. Before Tuesday, Blue Jays relievers had thrown 18 innings over their last three games, including 11 during their 4-3 18-inning win Saaturday over Texas.dddddddddddd. Wang struggled through the fourth, allowing five runs to fall behind 5-2, but settled in and gave the bullpen a rest. He escaped a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fifth by striking out Paul Konerko and getting Dunn to line into a double play. "Im very happy to be back and thank you to the Blue Jays for giving me a chance and opportunity to play baseball in the major leagues," Wang said. The White Sox, meanwhile, gave Toronto ample chances to get back into the game. Chicagos three errors gave the Blue Jays three unearned runs. The three errors gave them 42 this season after 70 last year, and theyve now given up 23 unearned runs after surrendering 30 in 2012. They also made mistakes on the bases. Dayan Viciedo got caught stealing in the second, Alejandro De Aza was picked off first in the third, Gordon Beckham was thrown out at third by Bautista in the fourth and Ramirez was doubled off second in the fifth on Dunns liner. "We kept shooting ourselves in the foot running the bases," Chicago manager Robin Ventura said. "Any time you lose like that it doesnt feel good." Jose Quintana pitched 6 1-3 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) and six hits while striking out five to leave with a chance for his first win since May 21. Dunn hit a solo home run, his 17th of the year, and Conor Gillaspie hit a three-run homer off Wang in the fourth to give Chicago a 5-2 lead. Even after Edwin Encarnacions two-run home run in the fifth cut the White Sox lead to 5-4, Chicago was one out from a win until Bautista connected off closer Addison Reed. "I felt great out there," Reed said. "One bad pitch and the next thing you know it, tie ballgame." NOTES: Gibbons said SS Jose Reyes would need "a couple weeks" on a rehab assignment before coming back. Reyes has been on the disabled list since April 13 with a sprained left ankle. . White Sox OF Dewayne Wise worked out before Tuesdays game, and Ventura said he hopes he can go to Triple-A Charlotte "in the next few days" on a rehab assignment.
